NEW ZEALAND FLORA

COLLECTION BY AMERICAN. Keenly interestecd in the Hora of New Zealand and Australia Mrs George W. Swift, wife of Dr. G. W. Swift, of Seattle, Washington, arrived in Auckland die other day by the Monterey on I?r return trip from Australia to the United States. When passing through New Zealand on her previous visit, Mrs Swift made a collection of native ferns from the Rotorua district and these, with a collection of wild orchids from Australia, she is taking back to introduce to parts of the United States through the Seattle Park Department.

Mrs Swift expressed disappointment that she had been able to collect so little literature on the subject of native flora in both countries. Many of the plants found in New Zealand were very different from those found in many other countries, and she deplored the fact that there seemed so little written about them.

“I’m not going out with him any more. I’m sure he’s a married man. Why, last night when I was sitting on his knee he absent-mindedly gave me his watch to play with.”
