AKITIO CLUB’S MEETING

SPLENDIDLY SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. RECORD ENTRIES AND KEEN CONTESTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) High standards in all respects were set at the meeting conducted at Pongaroa by the Akitio Sheep Dog Trial Club on the first four days of this week, the final event being completed at noon yesterday. The trials took place on grounds kindly lent by Messrs F. Herbert and H. Kayser. The judge was Mr L. D. Cameron, Tinui. There were record entries in all events—36 in the Long Head, 30 in the Short Head, 50 in the Huntaway and 30 in the Straight Head. The trials were conducted most efficiently, under the capable control of the president, Mr J. Riddell, with the assistance of the committee. There were large attendances of spectators on all days and warm gratitude is expressed to the ladies of the Pongaroa district, who voluntarily undertook the catering and on every day of the trials provided an excellent luncheon, as well as morning and afternoon tea.

The judge, Mr Cameron, stated that the standard of work throughout the trials was particularly good. He commended especially the work of maiden competitors.
