EKETAHUNA SALE. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co, Ltd, report: We yarded 400 lambs and 300 odd cattle of all classes which were submitted to a large attendance from Wairarapa, Hawke’s Bay and local districts. Sheep prices remained on a par with recent sales, best shorn wether lambs making 14/6. The market for cattle exceeded expectation and a free and keen sale resulted, prices being well in advance of recent auctions. Female cattle met with good competition especially aged low conditioned P.A. cows with calves at foot, making to £6/15/-. On behalf of the F. C. Turner Est. we offered an exceptionally choice pen of 21-yr old P.A. steers, well grown and in good condition, which sold out at £B/15/under strong competition. Hawke’s Bay buyers were free bidders on the steer entry but were not always successful against local competition. Vendors were well satisfied with prices and a total clearance was effected at the following rates: —Cattle: Good 2Jyr P.A. steers, £B/15/-; 18-mos P.A. steers, £6/13/-, £6/3/-, £6/2/6; do Hereford steers, £5/18; 21yr Shorthorn and P.A. steers, £4/14/-, £3/18/to £3/10/-; P.A. cows r.w.b. with calves at foot, £6/15/-, £6/6/-; empty do with calves at foot, £6/7/6, 18mos P.A. heifers, £4/7/-, £4/2/-, to £3/5/-; rising 3yr spg. dairy heifers, £6; rising 2yr do £5/6/-; weaner do, £2/2/-. Dalgety and Co, Ltd, report on their weekly Eketahuna sale held in connection with the Autumn Cattle Fair as follows:—A small entry of sheep and a large yarding of cattle came forward and attracted a large and representative attendance, there being several Hawke’s Bay and Wairarapa buyers present. The sale throughout was good, and in the cattle section any lines showing quality were keenly sought after, with the result that prices showed quite an improvement on sales held in the adjoining districts of late. The local enquiry was strong although the majority of the cattle went to outside purchasers. Sheep were in demand and although not a heavy yarding in this section prices were in advance to those of last week’s sale. We report a good clearance under the hammer and the following will indicate values:— 18mos P.A. steers, £5/15/-, £5/18/-, £6, £6/2/- to £6/5/-; P.A. Hereford X do, £6; Hereford do, £5/16/-, £6, to £6/4/-; med. 14 and 2Jyr P.A. steers, £7; 18mos P.A. heifers (good), £5; med. do, £3/10/-, £3/12/6. £3/16/- to £4/1/-; empty P.A. cows, £4, £4/7/-, £4/14/- to £5; coloured bullocks, £4/18/-, £5, £5/3/- to £5/8/-; coloured 18mos do, £4 to £4/5/-; small P.A. weaner steers, £2/15/-, £2/18/- to £3; small weaners £2 to £2/2/-; forward dairy cows, £2/15/-, £3, £3/8/-, £3/10/; fat dairy cows, £4/16/-, £5, £5/7/- to £5/16/-; small Jersey X weaner heifers, £2 to £2/2/-.
