SPIRIT OF AUSTRALIA

DISPLAY BY SCHOOL CHILDREN LN SYDNEY

COLOURFUL HISTORICAL PAGEANT

FEATURE OF ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

Ey Telegraph.—Press Association. Copyright. SYDNEY, April 6.

Thousands of school children today played their part in the anniversary celebrations in a colourful pageant at the Sydney Cricket Ground. More than 50,000 parents gained admission and at least 20,000 did not, resulting in tremendous confusion and disappointment.

The pageant depicted Australian fauna and flora and native corroborees. Tableaux symbolised early Australian life and products. Folk dances were presented and 40 suburban schools welcomed “the Spirit of Australia,” featured by a tall, lovely girl in rich robes.
