WEDDINGS
EVANS-FULTON At St Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Rongomai, the wedding took place recently of Rubina Isabella, only daughter of Mr and Mrs J. H. Fulton, Rongomai, and Albert James, second son of Mr and Mrs W. O. Evans, also of Rongomai. The Rev A. A. Armstrong performed the ceremony and Mr J. E. McDonald was at the organ. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gown of ivory angelskin lace with chantilly design, cut on simple lines, the skirt fitting to the knees then falling away to form an oval train. The heart-shaped neck was finished with a spray of orange blossom. A gold brooch —an old family heirloom—was also worn. The high sleeves of the frock were tapered to form a point over the hands: The beautiful tulle veil fell from a coronet of orange blossom to form a second train. She carried a bouquet of white lilies, roses, asters and asparagus fern. The bridesmaids, Miss Rita Schnell and Miss Jean McTavish, were dressed alike in frocks of salmon pink chantilly lace, made in redingote style, buttoned to the knees then falling open to show the satin slips. The necklines were finished with small pointed collars and at the waist were worn sashes of delphinium blue velvet tied at the back and hanging in long ends. Their sandals were of silver and they had delphinium blue velvet hairbands with a cluster of salmon flowers on the side. Each maid carried a bouquet of toning pink roses, belladonna lilies, asters and asparagus fern. The flower girl was Dorothy Davie, who wore a frock of salmon pink spotted net over satin, with a salmon pink hairband. She carried a posy to tone. Mr Oliver Evans, Rongomai, brother of the bridegroom, was best man, and Mr M. Fulton, Kohinui, the bride’s brother, was groomsman. The ushers were Mr J. Fulton, Rongomai, and Mr J. Drysdale, Nireaha. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Foresters’ Hall, where Mrs Fulton received the guests in a frock of navy chantilly lace with a spray of scarlet flowers. She had a navy straw hat with a scarlet flower, and her bouquet was of scarlet verbena zinnias and roses. The bridegroom’s mother wore a navy and white frock and matching hat, and she carried a red posy. When Mr and Mrs A. J. Evans left on their honeymoon the bride was wearing a frock and bolero of navy triple georgette. Her hat and eye veil were of navy, and she wore navy gloves and shoes and a South American skunk stole, the gift of the bridegroom.
