NEW MOVE TO STRENGTHEN FRENCH DEFENCE
CONFERENCE OF DIPLOMATIC REPRESENTATIVES.
HOPES OF IMPOSING CHECK ON GERMANY.

For the purpose of discussing the strengthening of France’s influence in Eastern Europe, in order to offset future German moves, M. Boncour (Foreign Minister) has summoned a conference of French diplomatic representatives in Germany, Russia, Poland, Czechoslovakia and Rumania. Considerable importance is attached to the. conference concerning which “L’Oeuvre” says that France’s initiar tive already has produced an excellen* impression in the Balkans, which are welcoming the rejuvenation of French foreign policy. Various recent signs of opposition to Hitlerism have shown the correctness of M. Boncour’s opinion that France could regain the upper hand. Hungary’s decision to resist German influence is significant.
