MAGISTRATE’S COURT
MASTERTON FORTNIGHTLY SITTING
POLICE AND BY-LAW CASES Mr H. P. Lawry,. S.M., presided at tiie fortnighty sitting of the Masterton Magistrates' Court, held this morning, POLICE CASES Leslie Wilkinson was fined £1 and 10s costs for having operated a motorcycle not equipped with a proper silencer.
A fine of £1 and costs 10s, was imposed on John Asplit for having permitted a motor-car to be used without number plates. On a charge of having permitted an unregistered car to be used he was convicted and discharged.
Observing that there was some doubt, about the speed, the Magistrate dismissed a charge of having driven a
motor-cycle in Queen Street at a speed exceeding 30 miles an hour an hour, preferred against Thomas McMullin. CIVIL BUSINESS Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in the following undefended civil claims: Masterton Borough Corporation V. Edward W. Mills, claim £5 6s, 7d, costs 32s 6d: same v. E. E. Wooding, claim £l9 0s 2d. costs 31s 6d; McGavins Ltd v. H. M. Robertson, claim £l4 9s Id, costs £2 4s. In a defended civil claim, the Commercial Refrigeration Company proceeded against C. Gambitsis for the sum of £22 7s 3d. After lengthly evidence had been taken, the Magistrate made an order for the return of a refrigerator to the plaintiff company and gave judgment for plaintiff for. £l5, with costs £3. witnesses' expenses, 7s 6d, and £5 solicitor’s fee.
