Citizens Satisfied.
There have been some unusual happenings in the municipal life of Hawera of recent weeks. One that was most unexpected and perhaps unique occurred when the borough chamber was crowded with a deputation that requested the Mayor and all the councillors to continue in office for another term, so satisfied were the citizens with the conduct of the municipality during the last five years. And this in spite of the shortage of water due to the scraper sticking in. the main! The deputation included two previous Mayors, an ex-chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, and the President of the Retailers' Association, and there was an apology from the member of Parliament for the district, lhe outcome of the meeting was that the Mayor and six councillors agreed to stand for election. Two others asked for time to consider the matter. ■
