VOGUE FOR WHITE.

THE DECORATION OF SMART BEDROOMS. CURRENT LONDON FASHIONS. There is a veritable epidemic of white decorations in London, especially in bedrooms. The radiance of a woman's personality takes on a glow against white —a secret discovered not only by the psychologists, but by the smartest London decorators. A white setting is glamorously flattering, whether it’s a stretch of snow-covered mountain in the Swiss Alps or a backdrop of marble walls and columns in a hotel ballroom.

Of all rooms in the house, the bedroom should be the most flattering. The drawing room can be dignified, the sun room gay, the dining room restful, but the bedroom should have glamour. A woman owes it to herself to provide this background for the most personal of her settings, and nothing is so suitable for this purpose as white. Not the crisp, starchy, hy-gienic-looking white of the nursery, either, but the glimmering pearliness of the true boudoir. And here’s the thrill. The white bedroom is not in the least impractical! Londoners are doing them in the midst of dirt and fog, for clever- decorators have worked out ways and means. Imagine this. A room with white walls, and a white, washable carpet.

There is a recession in the wall to fit the head of the bed, which is made of white crushed velvet, padded and fitted over a frame of simple design. White satin curtains, like those at the windows and dressing table, finnished with white cotton fringe, are draped over the bed in the Regency manner. At either side are small lamps with white shades, for books and ash trays. At the opposite side of the room, between the two windows, stands the dressing table with its white satin skirt, and a triple mirror which charmingly reflects the other glass accessories. A comfortable chair is covered with a smart white woollen fabric, and a beautiful white wardrobe with carved design picked out in silver occupies the side wall. On a small white table near the chair is a large bowl of lilies, and on the floor beside the bed a lustrous sheepskin rug.
