SPANISH WAR
END SAID TO BE IN SIGHT.
POSSIBILITY OF ARMISTICE. LONDON, April 4. The “Telegraph’s” Perpignan correspondent has reliably learned that the Republican Government is preoccupied in preventing further slaughter and destruction in Catalonia. Accordingly the reports of the possibility of an armistice probably possess substance, as further resistance is becoming out of the question. Those in well-informed circles believe that the war will be finished at the end of the month. NATIONALIST PROGRESS. WITHIN STRIKING DISTANCE. SARAGOSSA, April 4. It is officially announced that the Nationalists fought their way to within striking distance of Tortosa, the Republican seaplane base, through which run the last road, and rail communications linking Barcelona with Valencia and Madrid. The nationalists have also captured Morelia, commanding the road to the Mediterranean after a fourteen miles advance over a 4,000 foot pass, taking one thousand prisoners.
