BUTTERFLY PEST

PARASITES WELL SPREAD IN WAIRARAPA. The exceptionally warm weather experienced in the Wairarapa during the past month or two has provided admirable conditions for the breeding of the white butterfly, and in some parts of the -district, particularly in the neighbourhood of crops, the butterflies are present in their thousands. Farmers in many parts of the district have made application for the parasite, which has been introduced to combat the pest. Although on account of the favourable conditions the butterfly is exceptionally numerous this season, there is some comfort for farmers in the fact that the parasites also are well spread in the district, specimens having been obtained in several localities, including the borough ‘ of Masterton itself.
