FLOOD PROTECTION

GOOD PROGRESS WITH WAIPOUA SCHEME.

Splendid progress is being made with work on the Waipoua River Hood protection scheme. Including drivers, there are at present about 61 men engaged in cleaning the river-bed under the Columba Road bridge and further down stream. When this is completed the men will transfer operations to the vicinity of the Park Lake. A start will be made by the contractors next week with the extension of the Columba Road bridge, two forty-foot spans being added.
