Whether the carcases of rabbits poisoned by strychnine were contaminated was discussed at a recent meeting of the Selwyn Plantation Board at Hororata. Mr. R. M. Morten said that the carcases of rabbits poisoned on Mount Pleasant many years ago were obtained from the rabbiters by Lyttelton boys who took them back to the port and sold them. (Laughter). “It doesn’t sound too good to me,” said the chairman (Mr. N. C. Kensington). “I’ll keep off ‘underground mutton’ if that is the case.”
