COURSING

SEASON OPEN'S TOMORROW. WAIRARAPA CLUB’S MEETING. The Wairarapa Coursing Club will commence operations for 1938 at the Akura Enclosure tomorrow when a twelve-dog puppy stakes and a consolation event will be contested. Mrs L. M. Archer has donated a handsome trophy for the winner of this opening event. It says much for the prospects of the club when it is noted that the whole twelve dogs entered are locally bred and making their debut in a coursing event. The first event starts at 1.30 p.m. and the following is the draw:—Mr H. Taylor’s “Lion” v. Butcher- Bros’ “Aristocrat”; Butcher Bros’ “Full Cry” v. J. Ryan’s “Bonnie Lass; Mr Cooper’s “Taueru Lass” v. E. J. Wing’s “Kerepai”; Mr Les. Jones’ "The Sham” v. Mrs Wilson’s “Big Ben”; Mr W. Jensen’s “Helen Rufus” v. Mr Williams’s “Orua Girl”; Mr N. Archer’s "Deciding Stride” v. Mr D. Grimwood’s “Advance Acre.” The consolation stake will be for dogs beaten in the first round, and the draw will be automatic, according to the present positions in the stake.
