TOWN EDITION. THE Wairarapa Mercury. MONDAY, JANUARY 13, 1868.

A considerable time lias elapsed since the .notice of recall was given to Sir George Grey by “my Lord of Buckingham and Chandos ” and nearly every part of the colony has since expressed its heartfelt sorrow at the loss to this colony of an able Governor, a true friend and an upright man. We haverefrained until now from urging on the Wairarapa settlers the desirability of callingapublic meeting and getting an address signed to our departing Governor,Jthinking that the initiative in the matter would have been taken without any interference or or suggestion on our part. As this however. has been overlooked we now call upon the people of the Wairarapa, to lose no time in calling a public meeting to testify their sorrow at losing him as a Governor and sympathising with him for the gross injustice with which he has been treated ,by a Colonial Office whose sympathies are with and actions governed by the drivelling fanaticism of Exeter Hall. ,

As we learn by our latest advices that Sir George Grey will remain in the colony to receive His Royal Highness Prince Alfred, there, will be ample time to get -up the address, and we have no doubt that if urgently requested His Excellency would pay a visit to the Wairarapa before his departure. We can insure him a hearty and cordial reception.
