Ceicket.—The return Cricket match, Fea‘therston and ' Tauherenikau y. • Greytown, ■will take place on Tuesday next. A great 'deal of interest isexcited, andthereisnoroom to doubt that the game will be well contested, especially as hoth have been preparing for the ■ encounter." To those '-who Take" ah] interest in the noble and manly game, a .first-rate day’s entertainment is in store for' them. A dinner wUI be given at Mr Rowe’s, Tauherenikau, at 7 o’clock, to which several gentlemen are invited.

The Pigeos . Match.— This match will come off on the 10 th of December, instead ot the 3rd as reported in our last. . The Waiharapa Baxd. —It is’ to be reB’etted that the members of the band are so xih their attendance to practice. How that the holidays are approaching and their services will be more particularly in requisition it is to he trusted that they will make it a point to attend, so as to be well up to their work when ‘ called upon. Rai.v. —Onf‘farmers in this district,'looked very blue a fortnight ago, when, they saw ■ their crops on which they depend for support foiling for want of rain. Since then however we have had rain ‘■copiously and what 'looked almost dead previously, hasnow burst forthagain firesh and green, and good crops and harvest seem in store for them.

The Waieaeapa Races. —The Jockey Club at their meeting on Saturday evening, determined that the Races should take place on the 18th and 19th of March next, the Club also resolved to disqualify Mr. Day, The races of 1866 passed off anything hut satisfactory and we believe that by the action they have taken regarding Mr Day, it will tend to give greater confidence to gentlemen who run their horses for the honor of winning races, and not solely for money considerations.

Waterproof Clothing, Tarpaulins, &c We are always glad to notice any new branch of industry in this district. It will be seen in onr advertising columns that Mr Waterson has commenced in this line, and we have no doubt will receive support. The Impounding Act. —Many of oar subscribers desiring us to publish Acts which ■ effect the district locally, we to-day publish the Impounding Act —an Act we believe which interests every settler in the outlying districts of the Province. Boning Dat. —We are glad to learn that the usual annual sports will take place on the Greytown race Cource, on boxing day. As soon as we learn the particulars we will inform -the public what these sports will consist of.

The Eoad Boards.— The Hoad Board on the TaratahL not having received the map of the district precludes them from making rates, and proceeding with the roads. The government, if they are really in earnest, and desirous that these Boards should become popular ought to show a little more activity in getting "their wants supplied. At the meeting of the Greytown Board on Saturday, a letter was received from the District Engineer as to the state of the Waiohine river. The. Board declined to do anything in the matter, believing it was not in their province so to do, but suggested that a meeting should be called at Greytown, to consider the matter. A notice appears warning persons from removing gravel, ■ timber &c., in to-days paper. Fire at Papawai. —Yesterday afternoon, (Friday) a fire occurred in the whare occupied by the Chief Manihera. The whare being built of bark was soon reduced to ashes. Manihera lost everything be had, consisting of a quantity of saddles, flour, sugar, tea, and other necesaties, besides a money order for £ 112s, How the fire originated is not known. Improvements. —Whatever township we go to in this district, we cannot help noticing the improvements made. AtMasterton or rather ' at Te Ori, we find Mr Collins’ building a pretty dwelling-house. At Carterton -new buildings - are springing up on all sides; at Festherston, there is the new Telegraph office, and the ttsher. ready for Mr Caselberg’s new store. At Greytown we find Mr Moles building a I large store. With these improvements on all sides we cannot help feeling gratified, and there is no doubt that we have settled ourselves in a ■ thriving district.
