WAIRARAPA SMALL FARM ASSOCIATION MEETING.
A meeting of, the members of the above Association took place on Saturday, at Masterton, at the School-house, there were 21 members present, Mr Renal! occupied the chair, and read the resolutions arrived at by the joint Committee held at Mr Kemble’s. We regret that the Chairman, desirous as he was of putting the resolutions in shape, has not sent them to us for publication as promised. We however give the gist of them. A question having arisen as to whether the legal heir of a deceased member of the Association could vote, it was decided by the meeting in the afikmative. The Chairman considered the best course to take would be discuss the resolutions seriatim. The first and second resolutions proposed that half of the Town Acres on which the Court Houses are built in Greytown and Masterton should be sold at £SO, nndprovided the Government would not give that sum, Messrs Renall and Carter were empowered to make the best terms they could. A long discussion followed on this question Mr Moles proposing an amendment, “ that the question of price be left to Mr Carter,” and stated that Mr Carter having promised the government, previous to their erecting the Court-houses on the land that they should get possession of the acres for the same sum viz£s per acre, as other public bodies—that his promise should be kept and be binding on the association. The resolution was seconded by Mr C. Gundy, Mr Chamberlain and the Chairman opposed the resolution, believing that the government should pay the full worth of the land. Messrs Hall, Humphrey, Kempton, Hirschberg, Stevens, S. Moles, Fisher, J. Hawke and H. Jackson supported the motion, the latter stating had he been aware that such a promise had been made, he would not have proposed the original resolution at the meeting of the joint Committee. Mr Hall moved another amendment. “Thatthe acres should be sold to the Government for the sum of £5 each, Mr Moles then withdrew his amendment in favor of Mr Hall’s, and pn the question being put there appeared 10 for and 10 against. The Chairman .gave his casting vote in favor of the original resolution, ,
After dinner; .the question again"arose in another shape, a resolution having been proposed relative to dealing with the Reserves and Reserve Town Acres. It was proposed by Mr Moles,— 11 That' each Town , should have the management separately of its own Town Acre Reserves, to be dealt with by three trustees for each Township to be appointed at that meeting seconded by Mr Crayne. The Chairman strongly opposed this as he believed it would upset all that had been previously done in the morning and did not think as Chairman he ought to put such a resolution After a great deal of discussion during which Mr Crayne, and several others protested against the course taken by the Chairman and urged upon the meeting the necessity of such a resolution being agreed to—not only as a means of saving time—but as justice to the interests of both Townships, the resolution was put and carried by a large majority. The question of the 48 acre reserves comprising the east side of the township was then entered upon, when it was resolved. That Greytown should, as it was with the money of the Association this reserve was purchased, and in order to settle the matter, purchase the same quantity of land at Mastirton from the rent accruing on such reserve acres. The following' gentlemen were elected trustees to act in conjunction with Mr Carter, viz.—forMasterton: —Messrs F. Crayne, R Hare, and A. Renal!. For Greytown—Messrs M. Hirschberg, : S, Moles, and H. H. Jackson.
After a vote of thanks to the Chairman the meeting separated.
