Mr Carter at Masterton.
In addition to the above meeting one was held at Master-ton, on Thursday evening, where Mr garter was warmly welcomed byhis'“ old and kind friends of Masterton ”as he called them. The business was opened by the Rev. W. Ronaldson being nailed to the chair, when Mr Carter made his statement similar to the one reported above. That it was listened to with great attention and satisfaction >by .those present may he gathered from the following' resolutions which were carried by a unanimity.egual to that of Greytown. Moved by Mb Habe, seconded by the Rev. J. Ross— That in the opinion of this meeting the revenue derived from the Educational Reserves in the Wairarapa ought to constitute a separate fund for Educational (Purposes in the Wairarapa district, ami that the Chairman be requested to communicate this resolution to the Government with the viewof steps being taken to give it legal effect. That in the opinion of this meeting it is highly desirable that one or more Grammar Schools should be established in the Wairarapa as soon as practicable, and that the question of site be left to the General Government. Such School or Schools to be under local control.
Moved by Mr Bentley, seconded by Mr Dagg—
That in order to forward the establishment of such Grammar School or Schools, which shall have for its primary object the education and boarding of a certain number of boys, selected on account'of their nnerits from the Common Schools of this District—it is expedient that the reserve town acres, the unsold town acres in Masterton be especially reserved by such legal enactment ns may be necessary, for the purpose of being added to the educational reserves in the townships of Featherston, Greytown, Carterton aud Masterton in order to form one common trust and fund for the 'endowment of such a Grammar School, or Schools as is herein named. Moved by Mr Tankersley, seconded by Mr BannisterThat Mr C. B. Carter So convene a meeting, of the members of the Small Farm Association and the Small Farm Committee ns early as possible to take into consideration the above, resolutions with a few to their adoption and also to sanction the appropriation of such reserve town acres as may be sufficient for the purposes of the school-—the Court House, Public Hall, a Telegraph Office aud other buildings. Moved by Mr Gbayne, seconded by Mr Habe— That the thanks of this meeting are due and arc hereby tendered to Mr Carter, for his very interesting address and this meeting is of Opinion, that, that part of it relating to the Trusteeship of the Masterton reserves is satis-' factory.
Moved by Mr seconded by Mr Woodrooee— That the Presbyterian Church be allowed the privilege of purchasing acre Bl at the original price £5. A vote of thanks being awarded to the Chairman, the meeting separated.
