TOWN NEWS OF THE WEEK.
There is scarcely any local news in the Wellington papers and what there is is devoid of interest.
Private letters have been received from Mr Ward and Mr Weld, both were suffering, the first from serious illness, the last from an injury he sustained to his foot when embarking for England.
The coining man, it is taken for granted, is to be Mr Fox; and the general opinion appears to be that he will necessarily be an opponent of the Ministry. It is said he will leave England on the 2nd of next month. Most of the members of both Houses have cither left or are preparing to leave Wellington Upwards of 100 Bills have been before the Legislature and laws are produced with greater facility than any other of our domestic manu-. factures.
Business very dull in town, some slight speculations in potatoes none in the Hutt and all have to be imported from Canterbury What a pity you have not got a tramway.
