TO CORRESPONDENTS.

P.O.—The cost of the postal service between Wellington and Masterton last year was £315 10s., and the revenue £213. No less than 46,172 letters were received at the Dead Letter Office last year which contained property to the value of £7,822, of which £3,126 only was claimed, . J.E.—lt is a mistake to suppose that local government for towns and outlying districts is necessarily antagonistic to the existence of Provincial Governments. Sir G. Grey, the real author of the Constitution Act, one of the best, most able, and experienced of Colonial Governors, and a true provincialist, says, “ I rely greatly upon Municipal Institutions as a very important element in the Constitution to be granted to the colony.” S.E.—We return you our best thanks for the copy of the Bill which recently received the royal assent for the union of British North American colonies, and shall take an early opportunity of referring to some of the most important of its provisions.

J.H.—lt is understood that the road between Morrison’s Bush will be at last laid off ; and it is also understood that in the event of no Road Board being constituted for the Moroa Road District it will be thrown into the Grcytown district.

E.C.R,—We have read the elaborate judgment given by the Court of Appeal, and we gather that there might be. some difficulty in enforcing the payment of rates under the District Highway’s Acts ; but a Bill is now before the General Assembly, that will have the effect of making these Acts valid.
