TOWN NEWS OF THE WEEK.
We have not received our Wellington letter, and we suppose the reason is that there is no news to report. At the meeting of the shareholders of the N.Z.S.N. Company the resolution to wind-up was lost by a large majority. The present directors consequently retire, and Messrs Bishop, Duncan, Allen, Burne, and Plimmer have been nominated to succeed them. A young man named John Phillips, son of Mr Phillips, carter, Kaiwarra, has met with his death by falling through a trap door in his fathers hay loft "The news from the South is uninportant. Great depression in trade exists throughout the Middle Island Good samples of oats are selling at Lyttelton at 2s 6d and wheat at 3s per bushel. Superfine flour £lO per ton. With these prices.we need not feel surprised when we read of distress amongst ihe farming population.
