Agricultural Association and Monthly Market.— We beg to remind the members of the Committee that a meeting will be held at Mr. Fuller’s Hotel, Greytown, this afternoon, at 3 o’clock, when it is requested that all who can make it convenient will be present. The Volunteer Officers. —Since the paragraph relating to this matter appeared in our columns a circular letter has been sent to each of the Volunteer Officers, who had sent in their resignations in consequence of the appointment of J. V. Smith, Esq., to the command of the district, asking them to reconsider their decision. We have been tntormed that none of the officers are disposed to withdraw their resignations, and should this be the case it is not improbable that four out of the six companies will be broken up. Mr. Stafford may be a very expert gentleman in securing adherents b_y place and power, amongst members of the General Assembly, but his Government appear to have a happy knack of setting the people against them. Witness the present state of feeling at Otago, which appears not unlikely to extend itself to, and over, the whole of the North Island.

Grigg, seconded by Mr. Saywell: —“ That this meeting is of opinion that steps should be at once taken to enable the inhabitants to have the public reserves of Greytown placed under their control,.” Proposed by Mr E. Land for Volunteers. —The Provincial Government having determined to take no action in carrying out the Act of the General Assembly which authorises the Superintendent and Provincial Council to grant remission certo volunteers in the purcharse of land. Mr. Renall lias taken the matter up, and introduced the subject, which, though it has the support of the four members for this district, will not, if passed by the Council as it is opposed by the Government, be likely to be carried into effect.
Quadrille Party. — A select quadrille paty took place at the Greytown Arms on Wednesday evening last, which was well attended. A good band was in attendance, and the party broke up at a late hour after enjoying themselves on the light fantastic, evidently well pleased with the company they had met, and the kindness of the host and hostess.
The Wairarapa Race Course Bill.— A Bill to amend the Race Course Act of last session has been introduced into the Provincial Council. Its object will be seen by the following clauses: —“ Whereas in Session XIV. of the Provincial Council an Act (No. 4) what passed to provide for the management of the Wairarapa Racecourse ; And whereas it is expedient to amend the said Act: Be it enacted by the Superintendent of the Province of Wellington with the advice and consent of the Provincial Council thereof as follows: I.
