ANNUAL MEETING. (Own Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the above club was held at Pirongia on Monday (Boxing Day) in fine I weather. The attendance was not so large as on former occasions, but was nevertheless very satisfactory, the gate receipts totalling £37 ios. The total entries were a record for the club, and probably this fact accounts for the several delays in getting the horses away ; but, notwithstanding this, the officials are to be complimented on the very able and efficient manner in which they conducted the meeting. The course was a bit slippery, which was no doubt due to the recent rains, and further handicapped the progress of the meeting. Only one accident occurred, when three horses fell in the Maiden Handicap, resulting in Jockey Kcan (riding Merry Widow) getting his collarbone broken. The sufferer was conveyed to Te Awamuti by Dr Reekie, who rendered all possible aid. Following arc the results of the racing :
HANDICAP HURDLES. Sabine I Fail thy 2 Lam 3 Also started : Bernicc, Aeroplane, and Mavourneen. From a very poor start Sabine took charge, and piloted the field all the way. At the bend Larn looked to be coming up, but the condition on the big horse told. MAIDEN HANDICAP. Westerly I Koroirangi ~ Minto 3 Also started : Lcnella, Sabine, Fai 1 thy, Pukewerc,Mc rry Wi d<)w, Moonbeam, Clipper, Free Gun, Merry Lad, Coar, Panama, Miss Tui, Bee Sting, Black B:ss, and Teßore. The field were in a bunch until the bend by the gate was reachei, where t* s e ■■•■< arse preveJ slippery', a.id ihr :e hors 1 i diKean, the rider of Merry Widow, had his collarbone broken, but the other tw.) j>e'.:ey3 escape;.; with a seveie shaking, loroirangi made a li'e a'tmipt, irat Westerly came with a go.d r.m, and got the verdict by a head. ALEXANDRA CUP. Pukewera I Crispinecr 2 Bell Crispin ... ... 3 Also started : Rom in'ic, Siolo, Sabine, Abner, Lust. Crispineer lost ground at the post, but soon gained the lead, and kept there, with Pukewer 1 h close attendance, until toe stra igh t was re ach ed, whe n P a': ewera passed him, and won easily. Bell Crispin was a bad third. HANDICAP TROT. Doris Salisbury ... 2 Verbeen 3 Also started: Baxter, Orange Blossom, Lauvima, Viking, Miss Tui. Igho led all the way, and won pulling up by six lengths. SHORTS HANDICAP. Spalfish I Lady Nell 2 Bonikoff 3 Also started : Lend la, Lain, Abner, Free Gun, Mavourneen, Te Rore, Black Bess, Cheeky Imp, Merry Lad, Coar, Minto, Bee Sting, Moonbeam, Panama, Lady Ellen. This was a bad start. Spalfish took charge coming into the straight. Lady Nell came veiy fast, but the son of Spalpeen and Flying Fish won by a length.
HANDICAP TROT,
Kohinor I Viking 2 Doris Salisbury ... 3 Also started: Verbeen, Orange Blossom, Lauvima, Miss Tui. Kohinor soon took charge, and led all the way, and won pulling up. Viking came up very fast and beat Doris Salisbury for second money. "FLYING STAKES. Pukewera ... ... I Koroirangi 2 Crispinecr ... ... 3 Also started: Romanic, Bell Crispin, Lenella, Sabinc.Bonikoff, Abner, Minto, Lust. This was the poorest start ot the lot. Kukaka was just finishing a preliminary, and was quite six chains away when the start-d----iet the field away. From a straggling start, Koroirangi led till coming into the straight, when Pukewera took the lead and won by a length.
