ROTO-O-RANGI.
(Own correspondent.)
One of the most pleasant gatherings ever held in this district eventuated last Tuesday evening, when the scholars of the local Sunday School, together with their parents and friends, met to celebrate their first anni-
I versary. The entertainment took the form of a tea for the scholars and parents, followed by a concert by the children. The tea tables, which were beautifully decorated and laid out by Mesdaines'Hall and Cox and the Misses Atkinson, fairly groaned under their loads of delicacies, and presented a very pleasing and tempting sight. After supper the tables were cleared away, and soon the room was filled with the parents and friends of the scholars to hear the concert.
During the interval the prizes ■ won by the scholars were presented by Rev. Gow after which supper was dispensed by the ladies. The children of this district are very fortunate in having such an able teacher as Mr Paine senr. Personal!;/, I may sav that I have never seen one who has the gift of imparting knowledge more strikingly developed. He is also a clever and capable user of the blackboard. Mr C. Paine jun. also deserves praise for the way in which he lias trained the singing powers of the children. As a result of this concert the funds of the school benefited to'a considerable degree not only from the takings at the door but also from spontaneous subscripting. _
