PIRONGIA.
(Own Correspondent.) The local Town Hall Committee called a meeting of residents in order to submit the "balancesheet for the past year the other evening. The attendance was not very large. Mr McDonald was voted to the chair and the balance-sheet was duly read and adopted. A credit balance of £35 resulted for the year. Messrs McDonald, D. O'Shea, C. Beere, G. Harper, A. W. Jones, H. O. Death, and A. E. Fear were elected a committee for the ensuing year. A practical demonstration of the working of the Suddith fumigator was given on Mr W. Watts' farm, Ngaroto, on Monday (Labour Day) by Mr McPhee, rabbit inspector. There was a very large gathering of farmers. Several exhibition's were given, which proved conclusively the success of the fumigator. In ope case as many as 42 dead rabbits were unearthed. After_ witnessing many similar exhibitions all present expressed themselves as more than satisfied with the work done and some if not all intend to have no delay in putting the machine to work on their farms. The fumigator is an Australian' invention, by which a gas is formed and forced into the burrows by a powerful pump. It is a remarkably cheap system of exterminating rabbits. The gas costs but 7s for a day's work, is worked by two men; and would cover about 300 acres. Many are doubtful as to the success of poisoning, but those present on Monday were unanimously of opinion that the system is a good one.
