The Waipa Post. PUBLISHED EVERY TUESDAY AND FRIDAY FRIDAY, OCTOBER 20, 1911. LOCAL AND GENERAL.

Bridge party at the Town Hall to-night.

A nurse advertises having started a practice at Te Awamutu.

A meeting of those interested in Forestry is called for to-mor-row evening.

Tenders are called for forming footpaths in Alexandra and Teasdale Streets.

Applications are called for nominations to fill an extraordinary vacancy on the Town Board.

Mr J. A. Young announces in another column dates of political meetings in connection with his Waikato electorate campaign.

As the result of the visit of the Cambridge Comedy Company to Te Awamutu some few weeks ago, the sum of £8 8s 2d has been placed to the credit of an account for stage decorations. This credit balance is highly satisfactory, and we hope, at an early date to see a marked improvement in the appearance of the stage at the Town Hall. Te Awamutu is certainly under a debt of gratitude to those members of the Comedy Company who bv their services obtained this sum.

At the request of the Defence Department we again draw the attention of members of the territorial forces to the necessity of advising the area headquarters of any change of address. Failure to do this renders the offender liable to a line. No. 15 area, with headquarters at Te Awamutu, now includes the townships of Cambridge, Fencourt Bruntwood, Tamahere, and Newstead. The area boundary has recently been extended to the north-east and north, touching the southern boundary of Hamilton and Frankton Junction.

One strawberry cow is impounded at Te Awamutu.

lenders are called for the plumbing work in connection with the Te Awamutu Post Office.

A concert to provide funds for the improvement of the local school grounds is advertised in this issue. The programme is to be entirely given by the children.

Monday next, Labour Day, is a statutory holiday. The business people of Te Awamutu will observe the day as a close holiday, and all business premises will be closed. The WAIPA POST will be published on Tuesdav as usual. The Post Office will be open in all its branches as usual, except that there will be no afternoon delivery.

Mr F. W. Butler, civil engineer and surveyor, of Hamilton and Cambridge, notifies that it is his intention to open a branch office at Te Awamutu, Mr Butler is engineer to the Hamilton and Cambridge Borough Councils, and we are pleased to note his intention to open a branch office here. It is to be hoped that the opening of this office will be an inducement to the local authorities to move in the matter of obtaining permanent levels of the town, the need of which has be'en repeatedly felt. Pending a permanent office being arranged messages for Mr Butler mav be left at the office of the WAIPA POST.

The funeral of the late Mr Wm.' North took place yesterday afternoon. A very large number of residents, amongst whom were many pioneer settlers, followed the cortege. The officers and members of the Loyal Te Awamutu Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., were present to pay their last tribute to their brother member. The pall-bearers were : Messrs E. W., W. J., J. T., and Chas. North, sons of the , deceased gentleman. The Rev. J. A. Lamond assisted by Mr Bridgeman (Home Missionary) conducted the ceremony. In a few appropriate remarks, the Rev. Lamond bore testimony of the sterling qualities of the late Mr North, the service throughout being a most impressive one.
