UTILISING SKIM MILK.
THE"P'" AUCTION OF JA3EIN.
The uses to which skim milk is now being put in the production ■of dried casein will shortly make much longer cartages of bulk milk profitable, according to Mr Wesley Spragg, managing director of the New Zealand Dairy Association. The drying of casein, says Mr Spragg, has been proven to be a valuable method of disposing of the by-products of creamery and factory, and the association was now getting together the final data required to establish that industry. They had, he says, received several offers to purchase skim milk for the above purpose, but it had been decided that full investigation should first be made with the object of the association doing all the work itself and taking the profits. If he visited England this season it would be in part for the purpose of making inquiry into this industry and the market for the manufactured article. The utilisation of skim milk in this manner would have an influence on the home separation business, because it would make a market to which whole milk could be profitably delivered from considerable distances.
