DRUIDS’ DANCE AT TE AWAMUTU.
On Friday evening a plain and fancy dress dance in connection with the Pride of Te Awamutu Lodge No, 84, U.A.0.D., was held in the Tpwn Hall, About seventy couples were present. The decorations were charming, and it is
questionable if the hall has ever looked so artistic. On the walls mirrors among the greenery reflected the numerous charming frocks of the ladies. From side to side streamers of flags were suspended. Without a doubt the decorations were a special feature, and bore evidence of the unfailing efforts of the organisers to make the evening an enjoyable one. I'n the supper room the effect was equally as pleasing, the table being massed with wattle blooms. At certain intervals the gas was lowered, and the lighting was supplied by coloured fairy lamps which were suspended in clusters from the
ceiling. Dancing was _com'Hnenced at 8 p.m. and continued till the early hours. Music was supplied by the Te Awamutu Dance Orchestra under the baton of Mr E. Moeller. The M.’sC. for the evening were Messrs J. H. Ansell and A. G. Warburton. The duties of judging the fancy costumes fell upon Mesdames H. Y. Collins and Wm. Taylor and Messrs J. T. Reid and W. F. Stewart, who carried out their somewhat arduous duties to the entire satisfaction of all present. After due consideration they awarded the prizes to Miss B. Alexander (Bridge) and Mr R. Clark (Clown). Both the winners sustained their characters to the
very best advantage. In the ladies’ section the name of Miss .-Schulze (Pierette) was coupled * with that of the winner, but on drawing for first place the prize went to Miss Alexander. Among the fancy costumes we noticed Miss Kirkham, Folly ; Mrs Gibson, WAIPA Post ; Miss Herlihy, Bridge; Miss Gibbons, Gipsy; Miss Hudner, Ireland; Miss Westbury, Queen of Hearts; Miss 'Watson, Nurse ; Mrs Groves, Queen of Hearts ; Miss Sketchley, Japanese; Mr Keefe, Mexican ;Mr Forkett, Tramp; Mr C. Sittauer, Military Surgeon; Mr V. Sittauer, 16th Royal Hussar; Mr Douglas, Jack Tar; Mr Lovegrove, Maori. The committee, with Mr W. as secretary, are to be congratulated upon the manner in which all the arrangements were carried out. All present will have very pleasant recollections of the evening, and will welcome any future announcement of an -entertainment to be given by this lodge.
