OTOROHANGA.
(O wn Correspondent.)
Apparently Otorohanga will be very gay next month, as there is to be a concert and dance on August 9th, in aid of the building fund of the Roman Catholic Church; and the ladies of the Anglican Guild are holding a conversazione on the 30th of August in aid of funds for church purposes.
At the Farmers’ Union meeting it was decided to hold a ball under the auspices of that Union, and for some time there has been talk of the ladies of Otorohanga getting up a ball, and I hear it has now taken definite form.
In spite of the very wet night Mrs Holden’s social was very well supported on Saturday night. Skating has caught on here, and the rollers may be heard in Turner’s hall almost every afternoon and most evenings. The Otorohanga Trading Co., which has been in business here (formerly as Johnson and Co.) as general storekeepers for about twenty years, have sold their business and premises to Green and Colebrook. The latter firm intend removing the stock and fittings to their various branches, and will subdivide the present building into offices, for which there is a fair demand.
