PARLIAMENT OPENED.

Parliament was opened at Wellington at 2.30 yesterday afternoon in the Legislative Council Chamber by his Excellency the Governor, ' 2 in presence of a good gathering of members of both houses. His Excellency addressed the members at length, outlying various proposed measures and reviewing the work of the past year. In view of the lengthy session of last year, and the large amount of important legislation which was then passed, it was considered advisable that this session be a comparatively short one in order that the general election may be completed as early as possible.
