WAIKATO HUNT CLUB.

The members and friends of the Waikato Hunt Club "met at Mr W. G. Park's estate on Wednesday. Although threatening, the weather favoured the hunt, and it was not until evening that the rain fell. The attendance was a record one, and from 10.30 a.m. the crowd gradually assembled until at one time it is estimated that between 200 and 300 were present. The hunt itself was very enjoyable, but was somewhat spoilt by the number of hares which turned up. The hounds were rather slow, but followed well, and it was a pretty sight to see them going across the fields. After some very exciting runs two kills were secured.

There v/as not very much jumping, but, in spite of this, there were some very good runs. One gentleman had the misfortune to leave his horse in one field while he and his saddle crossed into the other.

Mrs Park, as hostess, did all in her power for the success of the hunt, and in every instance carried out her duties in such a manner that " Park's Day " will long be remembered by all present. The party were entertained at a sitdown lunch, and during the afternoon tea was partaken of. Many of the guests remained for dinner, and it v/as not until the evening was v/ell advanced that the party finally dispersed. The only two ladies to follow the hounds were Miss Vosper on a bay and Mrs H. Crowther on Taranaki. The gentlemen y/ere too numerous to mention. Visitors v/ere present from Cambridge, Hamilton, and all parts of the district.

Among our local huntsmen present we noticed representatives from the families of Wm. Taylor, C. J. Storey, J. Mandeno, W. H. Mandeno, H. Mandeno, Kay, Runciman, Potts, Clark, Houston, Walker and Herlihy.

A feature of the hunt was ihe number of children present, who added in no smalt degree to the day's pleasure, and all of whom showed great promise of becoming future huntsmen.
