Messrs Dalgety and Company report; —
At Matamata on Wednesday, 14th inst., we yarded a fair entry of cattle and a line of 50 fat ewes. There was a good attendance, and bidding was brisk throughout, especially for calves which made a decided rise. Heifers in calf were lower than usual, but we were able tp dispose of some of the lines. We quote as under: Fat ewes I2s, fat heifers .£5 ss, fat cows £4 16s, empty cows £2 7s to £3 ss, empty heifers £3 4s to £3 16s, bulls £2 I2s 6cl to £4, calves £l 6d to £2 2s, filly £ls, pigs 15s, fowls is sd, dray £5. . At Hamilton on Thursday, 15th inst., we had a fair yarding of sheep and cattle. There was a fair attendance, and bidding, was brisk throughout. The sheep sold well with the exception of one line. Pigs sold considerably better, and all entered were sold. Cattle sold well, especially beef, and these also were all quitted. We quote as under: Fat ewes 15s 4d, fat ewes and wethers 14s, fat lambs and wethers ils, store lambs Bs, pigs qs 7dto 17s, sows £l 9s to £l 19s 9d. fat heifers £4 to £6 ios, fat cows £5 to £5 ios, heifers in calf £4, empty heifers £3, springing heifers £; 2s 6d to £6 15s, springing cows £7 ss, yearling Jersey heifer £4 2s 6d.
At Pio Pio on the 21st there was but a poor yarding, but the attendance was good. No doubt the bad state of the roads affects the yarding of stock. Prices : 2tooth wethers 14s, springing heifers £5 5s to £6 ss. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., are in receipt of the following cable from their London" Office, under date June 20th :-y
Butter: —Total imports I 'into the United Kingdom for the week ending Saturday last are 76,000 cwts, as compared with 95,000 for the corresponding period of last year. We quote : —Danish 117/—, finest Australian salted 104/-, finest Australian unsalted 106/-, other descriptions 90/- to 100/-. Cheese : —Steady from 59/- to 60/-. The market is rather quieter at the advance. Good rains have fallen in Denmark. The weather is very dry in Siberia.
Australian Market has advanced owing to cold weather.
