THE SLOW-GOING FARMER.
" Things have been so flourishing in the dairy industry, " said Mr J. G. Wilson in his presidential address to the Farmers' Union at Woodville, " that the farmer does not.show much advance in his work. He knows that to test his herd might in a year or two increase his yield of milk by 25 per cent. He doesn't do it. He knows that he ought to provide summer and winter feed for his cows, but he in general, relies on grass. Each year, he savs 'he won't be caught again,'.but he procrastinates till it is too late. The Agricultural Department tries to assist him in every way. It is a thousand pities that scarcely any advantage is being taken of the offer. In Taranaki, with its high .priced land, farmers are being driven to modern methods, but Wellington except in a few notable instances, still lacks initiative."
