WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The regular meeting of the Waipa County Council was held at Ohaupo on Tuesday. There were present: Messrs John Fisher (chairman), Allen, Finch, Macky, Poynter, Ryburn, Hall, Teasdale and McKinder.

OJj&upo Literary Society. An application by the Ohaupo Literary and Debating Society, for use of the Council Chambers for meetings was granted. County Offices.

A memorandum was received from the Secretary of Internal Affairs giving the conditions on which subsidies would be granted in commemoration of the Coronation, but that the Government was not disposed to grant a subsidy for buildings erected solely as County offices.—lt was decided to further apply for a grant. Boundary Fence.

Mr C. Brennan, Paterangi, was granted permission to remove the road boundary fence of his property at the south end on to the unused portion of the road, to enable him to effectively deal with noxious weeds on his frontage on condition that the work is approved by Cr Macky. Alexandra Street, Te Awamutu. The Te Awamutu Town Board was granted permission to break up portions of Alexandra Street, for the purpose of making concrete crossings to erect temporary fencing until the crossings are ready for use. —Council thought the present an unsuitable time for the work, but granted permission to go on with it when authorised by the supervisor. Request for Pipes.

Mr S. C. Barnott, Ohaupo, applied for pipes, to put them in to the entrance to his house. — Granted, providing applicant pay half the cost of pipes.

Cambridge Old Bridge.

The Town Clerk, Cambridge, drew attention to the dangerous state of the approaches to the old bridge over the Waikato river, and asked for early attention to the matter. —Work to be attended to, and fences to be erected on both sides of the bridge.'! Non-registration of Dog.

C. Lockett, dog registrar, asked for instructions as to proceeding against a settler of Roto-o-rangi for non-registration-of a sporting dog. —Decided to take action. County Crane.

Council decided to purchase a crane for use in handling gravel. New County Offices.

A plan for new County offices, submitted by Mr F. C. Daniell, Hamilton, was accepted subject to certain alterations. The estimate of the building was £750, or £l5O in excess of the Council's estimate. Mangahoe Bridge. The Supervisor asked permission to prepare plans and call tenders for a new bridge over the Mangahoe stream at Te Awamutu. The chairman questioned whether the Waipa Council was now responsible for the work in the Town District, as according to law the Town District, on account of the-extent of the population, could claim its freedom from the County. —The Supervisor was authorise" 1 to prepare a report on the matter, and to give an estimate of the cost of repairs necessary to make the bridge safe. Kihikihi-Waotu Road.

It was decided to again apply for a grant for the Kihikihi-Wao-tu road. Te Awamutu Station Road.

It was decided to spend £IOO, as soon as practicable, on the Te Awamutu Station road.

Supervisor's Report

The supervisor in his report stated that metal was coming forward very slowly, and on the Frankton Whatawhata-Tuhika-ramea roads this work was now stopped for the season. On the Hamilton-Onaupo road the metalling ordered near Melville's was in progress, while that on cemetery Hill, Ohaupo, was not commenced. Rukiihia station road had made but little progress, and he recommended that all further work on this road be stopped for the season. Work on the Te Rapa-Te Kowhai road was completed with the exception of a •little gravelling. Gravelling on Tapp's Hill, Frankton, was completed, as was a contract for cleaning a drain on the 7 Whatawhata road. The bridge over the Mangahoc on the new road at Rangiaohia was erected and was a good job and work on the road was practically completed. Arrangements had been made for work on the road between Paterangi and Innesfallen. Repairing work on the Ohaupo-Cambridge road had been let, while plans and specifications for work on the le Awamutu station road had been prepared and forwarded to the Department for approval. Grants had been asked for the Pirongia bridge, Whatawhata Swamp road, Rukiihia station road and the Kihikihi-Waotu road.
