TE AWAMUTU TOWN BOARD.

• The regular monthly meeting of the Te Awamutu Town Board was held in the office of the Board on Thursday evening. There were present: —Messrs C. Bowden (chairman), A. Wallace, G. H. White and S. Mathews. REFUND. Mr E. A. Cox, on behalf of Mr J. Bathurst, wrote stating that unless £3O, being amount overpaid on hotel licenses, was refunded, steps would be taken. It was decided to get legal advice as to the position. TOWN HALL. Mr Batson wrote regarding gas fittings in Town Hall. It was decided to ask Mr Batson to meet the Board in the Hall at a convenient date when the suggested improvements would be considered.. PERMANENT CROSSINGS.

Concrete crossings are to be formed - at various parts of the

main thoroughfare. It was decided to write to the County

Council for permission to close either side of the road while forming crossings.

POST OFFICE.

The Secretary to the Postal Department wrote stating that in response to representation made to the Hon. Geo. Fowlds, the Public Works Department had again been requested to proceed with the erection of building as soon as possible.

UNPAID RATES. Mr J. B. Teasdale offered to pay quarter of the amount clue by him. He forwarded dates when Crown sections were taken up.

The Board decided to hold Mr 0 Teasdale responsible for full amount, and the solicitor was instructed to deal with the matter. LEVELS. F. C. Daniell, architect, wrote on behalf of Mr J. B. Teasdale and Dr Henderson re levels in Alexandra Street. He pointed out that buildings of considerable value were soon to be erected. — Levels will be given to the best of the Board's ability. RESIGNATION.

Mr A. Hyde wrote resigning as a member of the Board on account of his ceasing to be a ratepayer. —The Board had no alternative but to accept the resignation. A motion was carried unanimously expressing regret at the loss of so active a member, and placing on record the Board's appreciation of the good work done by Mr Hyde. The clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps to fill the vaca'ffcy. . MEETINGS. It was decided to hold the June, July, and August meetings at 2.30 p.m.

CORONATION. A wire was read stating that the maximum amount of subsidy to Town Boards for Coronation celebrations was £75. Application is to be made for this amount for a band rotunda,the estimated cost of which is £l5O. PETITION.

The following petition was received :

We, the undersigned residents of Teasdale Street respectfully request that a footpath be formed in Teasdale Street before the wet weather sets in. We'would respectfully point out that there are now a large number of residents in this street, and that a footpath is badly needed.—We are, etc., G. A. Bowden, J. L. Mandeno, S. H. West, A. C. Cruickshank, J. Doughty, W. Kirkham, E. B. Walker, S. H. Dwen, A. Thomas, S. A. Empson, B. F. Chester. It was decided to reply stating that this would be the first thing to be done in the spring, as the present weather would not permit immediate action. ' : , ENDOWMENTS. The solicitor wrote instructing the Board as to leasing of endowments and forwarded draft lease. He was instructed to proceed. BALANCE-SHEET.

The*balance-sheet for the year ending March 31st, 1911, was submitted, having been returned from the Audit Department. Gross receipts totalled £lOsl 18s Id. The balance-sheet was adopted as read. RATE.

Notice of motion was given to move at the next general meeting a General Rate of U& in the £ be struck on all rateable property in the Town District.

! ESTIMATES. The estimates for the present year were then read. PIANO FUND. The clerk reported that £4O had been placed to the credit of this fund as the result of two concerts. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the organisers (Mesdames Taylor and Ahier) for the assistance given. ACCOUNTS. The following accounts were passed for payment: —Goodfellow, Ltd., Qd, H. Andrew, £45, Bygrave and Clark, £lO 14s, interest and sinking fund on saleyards loan, £l9 ios, C. Bygrave, £ls 12s, F. Whitehead, £4 19s 9d, Waikato Argus, 15s, Gillespie and Son, £2, WAIPA POST, 10s. BALANCES. When above accounts are paid the account of the Board at the Bank will be £l3O overdrawn.
