GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIES.
FOR COW-TESTING ASSOCIATIONS.
The following is from the latest issue of the " Agricultural Journal," just to hand: —"In order that the principal of cow-testing, imperative in the work of advancing the standard of a dairy herd, may be generally introduced in all dairying districts in the Dominion, and the important question of the economical production of milk be thereby advanced, the Minister for Agriculture, the Hon. T. Mackenzie, has authorised assistance to cow-test-ing associations under the following conditions : ' I. No association is to be subsidised by the Department for more than two years. 2. The number of associations to be subsidised at any given time is to be as many as the number of available instructors will admit of. At the present time this number is six.
“3- As soon as each association has been subsidised for two years its place is to be filled by another association, to be chosen according to circumstances. “4. In addition to this subsidising of a few associations, the Department will assist by means of advice, and a little practical help at the beginning, as many other associations as settlers are willing to form. “Note. —‘Subsidise/ as used herein, means that the Department gives the services of a dairy instructor for organising .the association and for testing the samples throughout the season; works out and publishes the results; and provides free the necessary forms, glassware, acid, etc.”
