HOCKEY.
TF, AWAMUTU V LEAMINGTON
The opening match for the Reason of the Te Awamutu Hockey Club was played in Alexandra Park on Wednesday, when a team from Leamington visited Te Awamutu. The weather was very bleak, which no doubt accounts for the non-at-tendance of several, but, in spite of this, there were a large number of spectators. The game throughout was very fast, both teams showing some very brilliant play. Although the scores were in favour of the visitors the piavwas fairly even, the local team losing purely for the want j of more practise, but the play ’ hronghout was certainly charactI tori Stic by the good feeling ! shewn. Songs : were contributed by Messrs W. Douglas, K. Anderson, and E. A. Cox, and recitations by Messrs B. Chambers and C. B. Stewart, all
of whom were received with much applause. The visitors finally started on the return journey at 8.30 p.m. amid the good wishes of the local team, and loud in their praises of the hospitality they had received.
