TE AWAMUTU TOWN BOARD.
The adjourned monthly meeting of the above Board was held at'the offices of the Board on Thursday, May 18th. There were present : Messrs C. Bowden (chairman), G. H. White, A. Wallace, S. Mathews, and A. Hyde. SANITARY INSPECTOR.
A letter was read from the District Health Officer at Auckland declining to accept the Board’s offer of £<i as contribution towards the salary of the inspector. It was decided to increase the offer to £lO. GRANT OF £2OO. A letter was read as received from the Minister for Public Works. It was pointed out that the grant was provided for in the appropriations under the name given when application was made. On the Estimates the title read for works from the railway to Teasdale Settlement. In any case it was understood that the money was for footpaths, and he would not agree to vote on Public Works Estimates being utilised for this purpose. The wording of the vote on the Estimates made it impossible to comply with the request of the Town Board, and the Waipa County Council had been advised that the offer made to it to expend the money on the road still holds good. Considerable discussion followed. In anticipation of the proposed visit of the Minister for Public Works the Board unanimously decided to wait upon him as a deputation to point out how they were placed in having the uncompleted roads thrust on to their hands.
Mr Mathews was requested to confer with the County overseer when the levels were being taken for the work on this portion of the road.
REFUND. Mr E. A. Cox, on behalf of Mr J. Bathurst, made application for a refund of £3O, being amount of license fees overpaid in respect to the Commercial Hotel. It was decided to reply, not recognising the claim. GRAVEL. J. Ormsby wrote quoting gnvel at 3s 6d per yard on rail at Otorohanga.

It was unanimously decided to put in several concrete crossings at various parts of the main thoroughfare. JACKSON STREET.
The Rev. W. Woollass wrote, asking that the footpath be cleared at the approach to the Presbyterian Church. It was decided to clear and sand the footpath as soon as possible, and to serve notice on the Tennis and Bowling Clubs to clear the frontage of noxious weeds on the other side of the street. TOWN HALL. The caretaker pointed out that the spouting was defective; also that the hanging gas burners were so low as to be an objection when showing moving pictures. It was decided to shorten the pipes and to have the spouting attended to at once. SALE YARDS. The contractor wrote stating that the timber for additional yards had been ordered. FOOTPATHS. It was reported that several persons frequently cattle along the newly-tarred footpaths. It was decided to write asking these parties to refrain from doing so. WATER SUPPLY. Discussion arose regarding a permanent water supply for the town. Two sources of supply were proposed —one at Pirongia mountain and the other at the Tautari hills. .It was decided that the Board, in conjunction with the County supervisor, visit both sites at a date to be arranged, with the view of obtaining an engineer’s report and estimate of the cost of installation, and to approach the ratepayers for authority to raise the necessary amount by loan.
