TO THE EDITOR. SIR, —There have been several letters appearing in your correspondence page, about haying better shops, etc. With this I agree, as it is quite time Te Awamutu said good-bye to the old landmarks of 40 years ago; but I have been surprised, that the important question of having a decent post-office has not been agitated, for the present shanty is a disgrace to our Government. Hitherto I have been one of their most ardent supporters, but unless our member stirs himself, and watches the interests of our town a little better, and carries out at least an occasional one or two of the many promises made, I with several others will be missing from the ranks of Government supporters at the next election. The little shed which we call our “ post-office,” is to put it in the mildest form “ insanitary,” and is neither a fitting place for the Postmaster, his staff, or for the public. Our Government make sanitary and other laws insisting the right of observing same, on to the people, should not their “they” who make the laws and rules of our country, be careful that their own buildings are worthy of imitation. I hope to see others take up this question, and not rest until we have a decent building adequate to the name of “ Post-office.” — I am, • LOOKER-ON.
