The meeting to consider matters re the local post office was r'held on Monday evening last, and the good attendance proves that the settlers are determined to

try and retain our.present postal f... conveniences if possible. After some general conversation, and an explanation by the chairman (MrThos. Weal), as to. what Was really the position, and also the requirements of the Department, it was proposed by Mr J. S. Phil-

lips, and seconded by Mr Jas Cruickshank, that the settlers using the office subscribe five shillings each in order to provide for the cost of the necessary alterations, and on completion of said alterations the postal authorities be requested to hand over the promised subsidy of six pounds. This proposition being unanimously agreed to, it was also decided to empower Mr Weal to get work done to his satisfaction. The usual vote of thanks to the chair closed a most successful and enthusiastic meeting. The usual weekly gathering of the Young People's Bible Class and Improvement Society took place on Tuesday evening last, the programme; for the evening being readings from Shakespeare's "As You Like It." Several members took part in the readings, and altogether a very pleasant and instructive evening was spent.
