(Own Correspondent.) Napier, Yesterday. The weather which prevailed forth holiday yesterday was anything bn Queen’s. A persistent drizzle made thini decidedly unpleasant, and necessitat# the cancellation of all out door engap ments, with the exception of the Birth day parade of the volunteers. This q held in the morning, and despite them favorable weather there was a good] muster of both volunteers and publi For a time our gallant defenders had I take shelter from the elements in Pit mer’s stable, but took advantage of temporary lull to march out and firelh feu de joie. In the evening the Guards’ anna ball was held in the drill shed and most successful function it was. The were close upon 150 couples present, decided feature of the gathering was li elaborate decorations, which effected perfect transformation in the appears of the interior of the building, in fact is claimed that the decorations excelli in artistic design any previous attempt in Napier. That a large section of townspeop were bent on getting some pleasure a of the holiday was further evidencedi the enormous attendance at Wilt Bentley’s performance of “ The Silt King ” at the Theatre Royal. Eva seat in the building was occupied, 1 indeed many had to be turned in The performance was a capital 01 fully repaying the public for bravingll elements. Mr Coleman has definitely decid not to accede to the Council’s reqi to again make his offer to construct]! lie baths.
