The Mayor and the Hon. J. G. W addressed the assemblage. The l»tt declared that out -of the war would to* good, and he expressed his apprecid® of what had been done throughout* colony in aiding the Mother Count! and also for the demonstrations of • joicing at the relief of Mafeking. After “ Rule Britannia ” hid M sung said:—“Yes, BriUj rules the waves, and I believe that o°® the able direction of the statesmen the old world, in the not far dirtj future Britain will, in combination * her children in other parts of* empire, raise a lastiug structure ***
do combination of Continental countries can ever destroy.” Cheers were given for the British troops in South Africa, Mr Ward, and the New Zealanders at the front. The whole procession was marked by an outburst of patriotic enthusiasm.
