At Hampden.

The news of the relief of Mafeking reached here about 2 o’clock on Friday, and the people of our township showed their joy by ringing the school and church bells, firing guns, &c. Flap were displayed and the school boyi marched round the township carrying the school flag. One lady in her mcitement put two charges in one barrel of an old muzzle loader and the result considerably astonished her. Some boyi in the procession caused a great deal o! amusement by promptly falling don when the guns were fired. In the evening large fires were lighted on the hilk and the bells and guns were going until quite a late hour.
