The Stamping Nuisance.
[to the editor.] Sir, —On Thursday night, the local amateurs are to give another of their dramatic performances, and I notice that the club’s orchestra will, as usual, render some good selections. Now, Sir, do you not think with me, that it is very hard, and very discouraging to the conductor and his players, after working night after night, perfecting themselves in their pieces, to have their efforts on the eventful night spoiled by a set of hoodlums who persist in stamping time with their feet, and drowning the music. So bad was the noise on the last occasion that the conductor was forced to order his performers to cease playing, thereby depriving those who enjoy this part of the performance of a rare treat, for I can confidently say, a neater, or a more evenly balanced little orchestra cannot be found in the district. Trusting this letter will cause those iutorested to cease their abominable practice, and accord to the orchestra as attentive a hearing as they always do the club’s performers in their parts.—l am, etc., A Lover of Music.
