Golf.

(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, This day. For the golf championship' there are 52 entries, including Mr Gillies, the Australasian champion, Mr McNeil, New South Wales champion, end Mr A. Duncan, New Zealand champion. Two rounds have been played and these three are still in. Owners and trainers are reminded that acceptances for all events in connection with the Waipawa Racing Club’s Birthday meeting close at 8 p.m, tomorrow. Our Napier correspondent writes: — The well performed St. Leger horse St. Simon came to grief on the Napier Park track on Saturday. Whilst exercising over the hurdles with Pistol Grip aod Christmas, St. Simon struck an obstacle and fell, coming down on his head. He broke his neck in the fall and died almost immediately. Sweeney, the rider, had a marvellous escape, coming off with nothing more serious than a rery severe shaking. The death of St. Simon will be a big loss to his owner, Mr Skipworth, of Gisborne, for St. Leger’s son was coming on well and gave every promise of performing in good style during the coming season.
