Death of Emilio Castelar.
(By Eleotrio Telegraph—Copyright) (UNITED PRBBI ASSOCIATION.) MADRID, May 26 The death is announced of Emilio Castelar, Spanish statesman, aged 67. D -ceased was one of the most eloquent orators of tbe day, beooming notorious, early in his career, in cousrquence of his extreme domocratio acd sociulistio opinions, which he expounded in various Liberal journals. For a long time be waa Professor of History and Philosophy in the University of Madrid, and io 1866 i he took a leading part in the revolutionary movement, which wan put down by Serrano. On this occasion he was condemned to death, but he made good his escape, and sought r- fage first at Geneva and afterwards in France. When the revolution broke out in 1868 he returned to his native country, and was oue of the most energetio leaders of the Republican movemeut. In 1873 ho was olected President of tho Cortes, vacating that office subsequently in favor of tho Presidency of the Exeoative Power, and from thence to 1893 he witnessed some stormy political scenes. Senor Castelar has written a camber of very fine works.
