Mr Flrmiog’s sale of horses took place at tbe Tavistock Hotel yards on Thursday, when about 40 useful light aod harness horses were offered. A good few buyers were in attendanoo, mostly from Hastings, and Mr Rymer from Napier. Abont twenty-three were sold under the hammer and a few after tbe sale. Tho horses realised fairly satisfaotory prices. Unbroken ones, heavy euough for harness brought from £lO to £l2. Tbe local gymnasium clnb held their first evening ou Thursday, and besides members a good many of the public attended. Mr Tricklebunk, of Waipawa, waa prrsont, nnd also Mr Eidio Gay, who gave various exhibitio n on the trap ze. etc. The club hos already a fair stook of athletic gear such rh Romm rings, parallel and horizontal bars, Indian clubs, datnbefis, boxing gloves, &o. The members propose to meet next Tuesday evening for practice.
