An ex-teacher under the Wanganui Education Board appeared before laat week’ll meeting of the Board to answer charges of having, when in charge of a country school, wrongly issued certificates showing children to have passed the fourth standard, whereas the inspector’s report stated that they had failed ; having mutilated unfavourable examination and inspector’s reports in the direction of showing that the reports were of a favorable character ; and having filled up blanks in the daily register of attendance, in which children had been marked as present when they were absent, while the school was shown to be open and attendances shown when the sohool was closed. The teacher admitted that the certificates were in correot, and explained that they were probably oarelessly filled op without reference to the inspector's report. With regard to the examination report, his explanation was that the mock, or mutilatod report was part of a play to be called ‘The Rival Inspectors,’ whioh he had written. He denied that the altered documents bad been used as genuine offioial papers, and emphatically denied having falsified the attendance register, or altered the reports with a view to deoeiving the Board or Committee, and deolared that he had done nothing wrong. .The Chairman of the Board and Mr Pirani wero appointed a committee to bold an enquiry into the matter at the school in question.
