Rabbit Inspectors’ Reports,

Inspector Woof—On Inglis’s trig hill: Signs on small reserve near Rosenbeck's; killed a runner. Poison is being laid here. With Inspector Harvey (Woodville) on top of Ruahines : Dogs got scent of rabbits on Wellington spur west of Pohangina. Pringle has killed three here lately; poison working well. On Smedley (Mr Howard’s) : Still rabbits here, but less numerous. Up Makaroro river : Traoes on Douglas’s, Hogg’s, and Bowden’s. The rabbits killed on the Pohangina are well on the Wellington side, Phosphorised pollard is the poison found most effective here. A large quantity was destroyed by the rain. There is a great improvement in this district.

Inspector Campbell— At Thomas Durham’s place : No fresh traces, but fifteen rabbits killed here since November last. Saw a rabbit at McKay’s. Found one in a trap at Ellinghara’s. Saw three rabbits in Rathbone’s Bullock paddock; gave manager notice. Hunted Tukawara block, and served the manager for the Loan and Mercantile with fresh notice; gave verbal notice to several other owners. Saw one rabbit and slight traces at Howe’s; gave him notice to destroy. Have thoroughly hnnted most of the Ashley Clinton and Makaretu district, and have only seen three rabbits and a few traces. Saw two rabbits on Kyber PaBS run; shall summon Mr Ross. Killed a rabbit at Hatuma. At Te Aute, saw one and several traces on Knight's hill. Killed one on Milburn. Killed one large rabbit and two small ones in Bullock paddock. Have told Mr Arnold that he will be prosecuted if better attention is not paid to it. About 70 killed here since April 17th. Inspector Tickner.—Traoes on Gollan’s, and by Kopua bridge. Killed rabbits on Bain’s and Prescott's. Traces on Buokland’s and Rhodes's. Rabbits killed or seen on F. Smith’s, Rosakka's, F. Finsen’s, Hutchinson’s, Olsen's, Brieskie’s and Fredericksen’s. Numerous traces on other sections in the neighborhood. At Sanders’s (Whenahau), traoes on flat. Killed one by Turere corner, and started runner by Carlyon’s fence ; have notified Mr Sanders. Killed old doe at Carlyon’s ; notice served. Traoes on Wilson’s. At Potts's, Takapau, killed two bucks and a doe on new burn, some by shepherd’s whare; also traces. This place is unsatisfactory ; notified Mr Potts. Started rabbit at Prescott’s, at Otauhao, and traces by new mill; saw rabbiter take out Btop with three. Killed three runners on Gundry’s, and old buck on C. Anderson’s. Porangahau : Several traces in back country. Caught runner and saw traces on edge of bush, and by Turere boundary ; killed two runners at Turere. Killed buck at Sanders’s fence. At Wallingford started rabbit. By Fleming’s swamp killed a doe. Traces in Nos 1 and 2 burnt blocks. Lower Mangawhare, killed old buck and runner and found traoes. Killed young buck at Boar hill. Many traces at Ben Lomond. At Range block, Lake station, killed doe and saw another. At Ormond’s there are a few rabbits here and there, but Jones is hard at work, and a large number of rabbits have been oaught. Inspector McPherson—Mangotoro; Traces in Pekapekanni paddock and saw rabbit in Saddle paddock. At Patterson’s place, saw rabbit, also signs in thistles. Fresh signs on burnt birch spurs. Waipatiki: Saw rabbits at W. Missen’s and Gregorie’s. Killed rabbit at Oporae estate near fence. Saw three on McLean’s; rabbits seem to be coming up against this fence. Saw a rabbit on A. Me Lean’s, and many traces round Pukehou. Traces on Mount Williams, Bonn's, Johnstone’s, and Taylor White's. Signs on stock reserve, and on Pipi bank; to be attended to. Killed labbite on C. Herbert’s, McDonald’s and on Bumview, and another near Wainui river. At Wimbledon, killed four young rabbits on M. Franklin’s, Takapau: Killed two at Titree point. Signs on Ryan’s Hill, Mabbett’s, A. McKenzie’s, Cogswell’s, and McKenzie Bros’. A few signs on range. Several sections near here once very bad now quite clean. Webe.' road west: Saw rabbit on McLean’s, and fresh scratchings near Mangatoro new burn, and also saw a rabbit there. Also saw one on native land near there. Saw a rabbit at O’Kurehe’s. Saw two rabbits near Tamaki creek. Saw three rabbits near bush at Law's. Killed one at Baddeloy’s. Traces on Edgar’s and Lyall’s. Killed rabbit on Carlson’s, and Kelly’s, and on Williamson’s. Traces on Hayes’s, Sajoth’s, and Pausen’s. Killed rabbit at Ugly Hill block. Killed ten rabbits in a corner of a paddock at Mackereey’s, two on Treanor’s, and on the cliffs At Lower Mangawara killed a runner and an old buck. Killed one in the Boar hill country. Taaces on Ram piddock at Mangatoro. Traces far less numerous in most places. Out of seven rabbiters employed have given two notice

that their services will be no longer required. Inspector Aymes—At Sherendon traces in two places; Mr H. Russell will put on rabbiter. At Springhil), Patoka, killed a rabbit. Killed a very old buck at the Cascade; also saw fresh traces. At Matapiro, on lower river, a few traces. This district is in a satisfactory condition : very energetic work has been done on most of the properties.
