COMMERCIAL.

THE STOCK MARKET. At Danevirke the prices realised were as follows: Cattle—2 to 2|-jear steers (medium quality) £2 10s, 2 year steers £2 10s to £2 12s 6d, 18 months to 2 year heifers £2 7s 6d, weaners 23s 6d. Sheep—2-tooth wethers 10s, forward and fat ewes 7s 3d, store ewes 6s 6d.

Pigs—Weaners 6s 6d. At Woodville cattle sold well. Eighty head were yarded, and all sold under the hammer. Only 823 sheep came to hand owing to the wet weather. The whole lot were quitted. Twenty-two pigs were disposed of. Buyers complain of their being on the small side. There were numerous enquiries for pigs. At Wanganui bidding was brisk throughout, and prices showed an improvement on those ruling at last week’s sale. Store bullocks and wethere are keenly competed for. No doubt the prices for frozen meat in London hare a beneficial effect on our markets here.

The attendance was very large, in fact, it was one of the best attended sales yet held in Feilding, and one of the most successful both in respect to bidding and prices. There were buyers from all parts but the majority were purchased locally, and there is still an unsatisfied demand for both young cattle and sheep. The class of sheep yarded was good, hence the large values reached. The yarding of cattle consisted principally of dairy heifers which sold well. Most of the cattle and all the sheep, except one pen were quitted. Cattle—Dairy heifers in calf £2 16s to £ss Is, dairy cows £3 2s to £5, empty cows £2 ss, small fat bullocks £4 18s to £5 7s, yearling steers £1 9s 6d to £1 13s, calves 18s to 21s, 18 month heifers £2 11s, 3-year steers £3 7s 6d to £4 6s.
